Moscow has opened the world’s longest subway line, the 70-kilometer Big Circle Line (BCL).
According to the Xinhua news agency, the metro line was built between 2011 and 2022.
The first section of the BCL opened in 2018, and another 20-kilometer section, the longest in the capital’s metro’s history, will open in December 2021.
The BCL has 31 stations, 24 of which provide 47 interchanges to existing and future metro stations in the capital.
The BCL, according to Maksim Liksutov, deputy mayor of Moscow for transport, will serve as an impetus to the capital’s development for decades to come, reducing traffic flow on the city’s highways by up to 15% and decongesting metro lines by up to 25%.
