Former US President Donald Trump urged followers to launch huge protests on Saturday, saying he expects to be imprisoned next week on Tuesday.

The former US President said on Truth Social that “illegal leaks” from the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office indicate that he “will be arrested on Tuesday of next week,” according to Xinhua news agency.

“Take our nation back,” Trump said, issuing a call for his supporters to protest.

According to reports, the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office is looking into whether Trump manipulated business documents in connection with an alleged hush-money payment made to an adult film star during the 2016 presidential campaign.

Trump’s counsel has stated that he has no plans to participate in the inquiry, and the Republican, who served as President of the United States from January 2017 to January 2021, has called the investigation a witch hunt.

According to the BBC, the case in issue is one of several in which the 76-year-old is now being investigated, but he has not yet been charged in any of them and denies involvement in each.

According to the BBC, his lawyer stated that there had been no communication from law enforcement regarding the arrest, and the former president’s post was based on media reporting.

Authorities have been considering indicting Trump, with reports indicating that it may happen next week.

If he is indicted, he will be the first former American president to face criminal charges.

Trump has committed to continue his campaign for the Republican presidential nomination in the 2024 election, even if he is convicted.
